Our History

Sixty-five years ago, Walter arrived in Canada from England with just $15 in his pocket. Few could have foreseen the incredible

success that would grow into WD Potato Limited. Walter’s journey began with a farm job focused on cattle and grain, but his passion for agriculture soon led him to start growing potatoes on 50 acres. Over time, he expanded the land to an impressive 1,400 acres.

Walter’s vision truly took shape when he began working at Crang Farms. When the farm was put up for sale, Walter seized the opportunity, purchasing the land and turning his dream into reality. From these humble beginnings, WD Potato Limited has flourished into a leading force in the potato industry.

Today, WD Potato Limited is a third-generation family-owned business operating a state-of-the-art storage and transportation facility on a 150-acre site in the heart of New Tecumseth, Beeton, Ontario. With over 50 years of expertise, we specialize in growing, handling, storing, and transporting potatoes for the chip processing industry in both Canada and the United States.

In 2000, WD Potato Limited expanded to Nova Scotia with a satellite facility in Kentville. We now contract potato supplies from a robust grower base of more than 70 growers across Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Each year, we handle over 600 million pounds of potatoes, supplying major processors throughout Canada and the U.S.

To ensure the highest quality, WD Potato Limited procures 40 million pounds of proprietary and public seed potato varieties annually. This commitment supports our growers in producing exceptional crops that meet the highest standards in the industry.
